At Nova Ventures, we believe that breakthrough ideas can spark real change, especially when they empower people who need it most. That’s why we’re thrilled to share the story of Trexo Robotics, an Ontario-based startup recently featured by CTV News.
Trexo is tackling a heartbreaking challenge: thousands of children worldwide are told they may never walk. For families living with conditions like cerebral palsy or spinal cord injuries, mobility is a daily struggle, physically and emotionally. Trexo’s solution is both ingenious and deeply human: a wearable robotic exoskeleton that helps kids train their legs to move, step by step.
To date, Trexo’s devices have helped over 450 children in more than 40 countries, taking an astonishing 125 million robotic-assisted steps toward independence. Families describe the experience as “life-changing.” Children who once watched from the sidelines can now explore, move, and play alongside their peers.
However, this technology comes with a steep cost — from $35,000 to $40,000 — putting it out of reach for many. This is where a broader ecosystem can help. NovaVen’s mission is to accelerate access to transformative ideas and amplify ventures that tackle real-world challenges. Robotics for pediatric mobility is exactly the kind of innovation we champion — and the kind we hope to see become widely available, so no child is left behind simply because of cost.
Stories like Trexo’s remind us that innovation is only powerful when it’s accessible. As we grow our network and partnerships, we’ll continue to seek out and support the pioneers who make the impossible possible one bold step at a time.
